International Mother Language Day Celebrated by TERii Students

Undeniably, Languages are the most powerful way to preserve and develop culture and to promote it all across the world. Language is a medium to connect us all!

International Mother Language Day is celebrated every year on 21st February. The main purpose of celebrating this day is to promote the awareness of language and cultural diversity all across the world. It was first announced by UNESCO on November 17, 1999. Since then it is being celebrated every year. The date represents the day 21st February 1952 when four young students were killed in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, because of Bengali and Urdu language controversy. Because of this unfortunate incident, International Mother Language Day is celebrated in all over the world.

As everyone have their own way of paying respect to their martyrs, the students from Bangladesh too celebrated ‘International Language Day’ in the college premises. TERii being a family promotes and actually celebrates all the ups and downs together. On this day, an event was organized by the students from Bangladesh to pay respect to those four protestors who lost their lives. The Director of TERii, Head of Departments and other faculty joined and added grace to this event. The event was followed up with a special lunch arranged by the students of Bangladesh in their own culture.
